Natural dyes / Tapestries / Ritual/ Performance
"I consider my installations to be archival fragments of geographical identities. Through objects, videos, rituals, poetry, and textiles, I invite the viewer into a multi-world of symbols and beliefs. Often referencing pre-columbian mythology, my work explores the process of cultural healing and alternate systems of knowledge denied and dismissed by colonialism. Through weaving and extracting natural dyes from seeds and corn native to Central and South America and I undergo a state of communication with ancestral labor: a state that reconnects my body to my motherland. Although the location of my work varies, I often find myself and my objects developing alongside Mother nature and tend to display my work in relation to the conditions of the wheel of the year."
