Wes Foster

Photographer and Writer

Leeds

I am a photographer and writer who’s work focuses on the idea of utopia, the facade and the place of community. I work with text and both still and moving image, generally the outcome is in the form of books which are freely available via my website.

Most of my projects are abstract documentations of place - I am primarily interested in community, and how communities develop and are changed by the city and the economy around it. Aesthetically I am interested in creating subtly tonal imagery. I see the making of work as a vehicle for communication – one of the main tenets is to make it as accessible as possible. Class, social standing, aspirations, and how these are perceived heavily influence my work. I am especially interested in the façade, how we present ourselves through individualism, and also the role of community in society.
